Zeligsoft Releases v2.2 of Leading Software Defined Radio Development Tool
Component Enabler facilitates advanced testing and risk reduction with run-time monitor
Gatineau, PQ, Canada, February 21, 2006 — Zeligsoft™, a leading vendor of market-specific embedded software development tools today announced the release of Zeligsoft CETM (Component Enabler) 2.2, extending the market leading feature set to include run-time monitoring. With CE 2.2, Software Defined Radio (SDR) developers can execute and observe their applications running within a Software Communications Architecture (SCA) compliant operating environment (OE). This feature extends the scope of CE and overcomes the inherent risks and challenges developers face when testing and deploying component-based software.
The SCA Core Framework (CF) is a component framework responsible for deploying and configuring applications. Upon start up, it downloads components to devices within the radio platform, and facilitates the execution of the radio application (waveform). This software methodology promotes portability and reuse of software and hardware. However, it also makes it difficult to validate and test all the possible deployment configurations that could happen in the field, introducing risk into SDR development projects. Component Enabler 2.2’s new features mitigate this risk. CE 2.2 manages development time and cost by allowing developers to methodically test and verify each chosen deployment of their application and it improves software quality by ensuring that untested deployments never make it to the field.
“Zeligsoft Component Enabler 2.2 extends the developer’s reach from design and implementation right down to the running platform,” said John Hogg, Chief Technology Officer, Zeligsoft. “Run-time monitoring amplifies the value of CE’s unique deployment specification feature to give developers, testers and integrators unparalleled repeatable, easy-to-use unit testing and system integration capabilities. Users can verify the running system against planned deployments—or can control and enforce deployments to test specific configurations. The positive response from our customers has been very satisfying.”
Zeligsoft’s run-time monitor allows users to start the SCA Core Framework, load an application to a platform, and inspect it in real-time. Developers can see if the deployment they specified and configured is actually the one dynamically created by the SCA Core Framework. To ensure that all specific test cases are executed thoroughly, users can also take their deployment design models and explicitly enforce them during run-time. Any SCA-compliant operating environment is supported with this feature, including development systems and production embedded targets alike. Testers can even load the platform up with many applications in order to better represent what is likely to happen in the field.
“With its new release of CE, Zeligsoft continues the insertion of innovative technology into its CE product,” said Vince Kovarik, Senior Systems Engineer, dmTK® Product Manager, Harris Corporation. “CE 2.2 represents a significant step towards a true Integrated Development Environment (IDE) for SDR systems. Our developers are now performing system definition, XML and code generation, and run-time monitoring of our SDR system from within the CE environment reducing SDR development cycle time.”
“Customers worldwide count on Component Enabler’s innovative features to help them reduce the risks that cause project time and budget overruns,” said Kamal Krishnapillai, Vice President Sales and Marketing, Zeligsoft. “With 2.2, CE now covers the complete development spectrum, from architecture design to execution, enabling architects, implementers, testers and systems integrators to benefit.”
