Industry expert brings modeling and tool experience to developer of model-based engineering tools
Gatineau, PQ, September 14, 2009 — Zeligsoft™, a leading vendor of software development tools to the embedded computing industry, today announced the appointment of Bran Selic to the position of Director of Advanced Technology. In this strategic role, Bran will be responsible for the overall Zeligsoft model-based engineering (MBE) strategy and technology research programs. He will also be a key contributor to the Zeligsoft product direction and roadmap.
Selic has close to 40 years of industrial experience in the design and implementation of large-scale real-time and embedded software in telecom, robotics, and aerospace and is a recognized as a pioneer in the application of modern model-based engineering methods in real-time development, having authored a best-selling technical reference text on this topic. He is on the editorial board of several prominent scientific journals and is a frequent keynote speaker at various technical conferences and events. Bran is also an Adjunct Professor of Computer Science at the University of Toronto and Carleton University and is involved with a number of ongoing government-funded research initiatives investigating model-based engineering in Canada, France, and Australia.
Prior to joining Zeligsoft, Bran worked for IBM Canada, where he was an IBM Distinguished Engineer. At IBM he was responsible for defining their overall strategy for real-time software development tools. Before that, he co-founded ObjecTime Limited, a highly successful vendor of development tools for the embedded and real-time systems sector (ObjecTime was purchased by Rational Software in 2000). At ObjecTime, he was Vice President for Research and Development and also Vice President for Advanced Technology. While at ObjecTime, Bran was a member of the team that designed the Unified Modeling Language (UML) industry standard, ultimately chairing the UML 2 standardization committee between 2003 and 2008. He also led the team that designed the first industry standard UML profile for real-time systems development and has contributed to several other industry standards.
